Day 2

Beautification Day #2

Today was our second “DRA Beautification Day”.  We all had different assignments this time around, but the goal was still the same: Work together, have fun, and, of course, beautify our campus.  The girls – accompanied by Jan, Jason, Beth, Mindy, and Tayleigh – reported to the area surrounding the basketball court on their campus.  The Lava Falls boys with Gary, Kristy, Doug, and Tyson were assigned the lower pond.  And the Stone Ridge boys – alongside Geoff, Jodie, Reeve, and Ashley – worked around the main entrance.  We all worked for about one hour right after breakfast this morning.  Tayleigh, the girls’ campus director, said afterward, “I had so much fun!”

This week we had our first ever “DRA Beautification Day” hosted by Kelby, our Operations and Maintenance Director.  This event was Ranch-wide and included students and staff.  Work started right after breakfast and lasted until about 9am.  The students were split into three groups: Girls’ campus, Lava Falls, and Stone Ridge.  The girls were assigned Red Camp, the Lava Falls boys reported to the Orchard, and the Stone Ridge boys were assigned the Main Entrance.  Students and staff worked alongside one another in a group effort to improve the appearance of our home away from home.  One of the Stone Ridge boys said, “We were definitely sweating by the end, but it was nice that our teachers and staff were working and sweating with us.”  A good time was had by all, even though work was involved.  In the future, beautification days will take place on the first Wednesday of each month.

Girls Choir Performance

On Saturday, July 24th, several girls from Jason’s Music class went to a Pioneer Day celebration in Hurricane.  Pioneer Day is a holiday in Utah to celebrate those who travelled to this part of the country and settle the area.  The girls sang “America the Beautiful”, “My Country Tis’ of Thee”, “The Star Spangled Banner”, and “The Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy”.  Mckayla performed a solo dance during the last number, and the crowd loved her!  The girls in Music class are looking forward to the next activity with Jason!
